Instituted on 1 May 1937. (1943-1945 issue). Of multi-piece construction, composed of a Maltese Cross in gilded bronze with white enameled arms, along with four German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas between the quadrants of the cross, with crossed swords superimposed through the center of the obverse. The reverse is plain, with original ribbon on suspension loop with horizontal Spanish bar and pinback. Microscopic hairline cracks on the end of the 6 o’clock enameled Maltese Cross, which does not detract. Overall and excellent and rare piece.
