Germany. Luftwaffe Sheepskin Cap
A winter cap constructed of multi-panel patchwork, whitened sheepskin with the natural hide to the exterior and the white & black sheep’s wool to the interior, the cap features fold down side and back panels with the panels held in position at the top of the cap by a thread loop and a corresponding button, the fold down side panels have a small circular cut-out with a corresponding, overlapping horizontal “U” shaped closure panel with a single, brown painted sheet metal closure snap to each, the front features an embroidered Luftwaffe-style eagle and cockade. The cap displays standard use and age and the cardboard stiffener for the visor has been folded, to allow the owner to put the cap in his back pocket while inside. This caps were all made locally, but with a standard pattern. Overall an Excellent++ example.
