Germany. Kriegsmarine (Navy) Sailor Tally Cap
HISTORY. When a sailor entered the Kriegsmarine, they were assigned to a training Schiffsstammabteilung (Detachment). All detachments fell under either the Baltic Command or the North Sea Command. Schiffsstammabteilung 6 was stationed at Wilhelmshaven and was assigned under the North Sea Command.
An extremely well preserved Seaman’s cap from the Schiffsstammabteilung 6, constructed of a black wool exterior with rayon interior liner. The peak of the cap features a die-stamped gilded brass pin in the form of a Kriegsmarine-style German national eagle with wreathed mobile swastika and attached directly below is a multi-colored brass cockade. The tally ribbon is constructed of black rayon. The interior features a tan-colored leather sweatband, securely held in place by two rows of stitching and stamped on the interior with “LFA”.
