HISTORY. The medal was instituted in 1903 in 3 classes to be awarded to police and civilians for preserving and restoring civil order. In 1916 it was amended to add the cross swords and the medal became a war decoration for bravery. This version was awarded from 1916 to 1947.

Oval silvered bronze medal with crossed swords above and laurel wreath suspension; the face with the head of King Carol I facing left, circumscribed ‘CAROL I. REGE AL ROMÂNIEI’ (Carol I King of Romania); the reverse inscribed ‘BĂRBĂŢIE ŞI CREDINŢĂ’ (Manhood and Loyalty), a laurel branch below; on original ribbon mounted in the Romanian style in the original box of issue. Excellent.
