History. Karl Georg Anton Friedrich von Hanstein was born on October 27, 1809 in Ershauifen-Unterhof (district of Heiligenstadt), to his father, Friedrich Adolf Heinrich Christian Franz von Hanstein, and his mother, Friederike Charlotte von Hanstein. His father was born on December 31, 1771 in Ershaufen, retired from the Army as a Major, and died on December 15, 1838 in Schippenbeil. His mother was born on September 24, 1788 in Romsdorf, and died on December 15, 1848 in Schippenbeil. COA from eMedals on the history of the medal.
A fine iron cross with silver frame and complete, intact iron core, measuring 41mm, silver frame slightly pulling away from core at reverse 10 o'clock, on a long, wide original ribbon, an excellent example in better than very fine condition. Acquired from the estate of Major Friedrich Franz von Hanstein. COA from Neiman on the medal.
