Germany. Hitler Youth (HJ) / DAF Trade Competition Badge, 1934
HISTORY. In February 1934, National Youth Leader Baldur von Schirach and Dr. Robert Ley, head of the German Labor Front, (DAF), collaborated in a joint effort to institute a National Trade Competition to encourage German youth to develop proficient skills in manual, technical or professional trades. All participants were required to belong to the HJ, DAF, or another NSDAP organization, and only those under 21 years old were eligible to compete. Participants and organizers were all given a small identifying badge.
A shield-shaped, solid struck badge, 27mm wide by 36mm tall. Badge features an embossed HJ diamond to center with recessed swastika and embossed initials "HJ" to top and "DAF", to bottom. Reverse has the original vertical pinback and marked "Reichverband Pforzheim" at the bottom.
