History: Second World War period RAF flying helmet. The Type C flying helmet replaced the earlier Type B in mid-1941 and was originally without integral wiring, but this was remedied in 1944. Early models also had leather chinstraps but these were also eventually replaced with elastic strap.
Constructed of brown leather, chamois-lined flying helmet with rubber ear-pieces fitted with circular-shaped ear telephones. There are three metal pop fasteners to the left side of the face and a metal guide plate is fixed to the right. MINT.
