Germany. DLV Officer Dagger with hanger by F. & A. Helbig
Germany. DLV Officer Dagger with hanger by F. & A. Helbig
HISTORY. The DLV (Deutscher Luftsport Verband) was organized in 1933, as a para-military sport organization for Germans to fly limited motor-driven airplanes, gliders and balloons. This was all done to train military pilots in violation of the Treaty of Versailles which German signed to end WW1.
From my personal collection. Early and rare DLV Officer Dagger by F. & A. Helbig, Steinbach. Uncleaned, the nickel silver patina shows nicely. The hilt shows an early production solid nickel silver crossguard and pommel with the grip covered by blue Moroccan leather which are all MINT. The original blue leather blade buffer pad is even still in place. The blade is naturally bright and shows its original crossgrain, with some aging. The blade is stamped with the F. & A. Helbig insignia. The scabbard is straight, without dents and with perfect blue Moroccan leather and a DLV stamp at the throat. The mounts are nickel silver over steel with a leather hanger. Early, rare and near MINT.
