The American had been in WW2 for almost two year. D-Day in Normandy was over a half a year away. The Allies were having some success, but victory was a long way off. However, on the home front, the one thing that was always on the minds of Americans was the sons, brothers and friends that made up the millions of American "Foot Soldiers". Fascinating reading.
